Cheap Flower Growing Kit
Want to start a flower garden? Are you fed up of paying high prices for flowers that don’t last long and are often not very attractive? Growing your own flowers is not only cheap but also fun. Flower gardens can range from a small pot outside on the deck or patio to a large plant inside like in a window corner in the living room. The cheap flower growing kit will give you the basics to get started with growing a flower garden. Most kits have everything you need to get started including seeds, pots, potting soil, potting media, fertilizer, lighting and the bulbs.
When deciding what types of flowers you want to grow in your flower garden be sure to choose hearty plants that don’t need a lot of attention. Most flowers like moist soil that has good drainage. You can also plant flowers that are native to your area and haven’t been introduced to your area by humans. They will be very successful and be very rewarding to the eye.
To plant your flowers, you will need to prepare the soil first by digging a hole in the ground about the size of the flower. Make sure the soil is well rotted before putting the seeds in. Next fill the hole with potting media (potting mix) that will allow the roots to absorb moisture from the soil and stay damp. Most people use one part potting media to three parts of flower bed soil. Lighting should preferably come from a fluorescent grow light.
Next transplant the seeds and propagate them by splitting the flowers open and spreading them over the potting media. Make sure to plant them in the correct spot. If the flowers are sowed too high or on an improper site you will find they don’t grow very large. Flowering buds that are planted too close together often don’t open properly or are so crowded that the plant gets stressed and shuts down. A good rule is to plant them about six inches apart unless you have a lot of time to tend to the plants. You will also find that the majority of the flowers you receive will be perennials.
In addition to selecting the proper site for the flowering buds you will need to keep the soil around the base of the plant healthy. You can do this by using compost, fertilizer, or garden compost. Mulch keeps the roots of the flowers moist and cool, which promotes the longevity of the flowers. Don’t forget to mulch around the base of the plants as well to protect them from insects.
Once you have started the flowers it is important to make sure they get the right nutrition. Buy a cheap flower growing kit and choose the best seeds you can find. Don’t just buy any seeds, no matter how cheap they are, cheap flowers won’t last long if they don’t get the right nutrition. Start out with a good quality flower seed.
Also, don’t just plant the flowers anywhere you want them to go. Choose a spot that gets morning or afternoon sun light. Most flowers won’t flower in the shade because they aren’t able to get enough light.
Your cheap flower growing kit should include all the materials you need to get started and then some extra to put on top of your work. After your flowers start to bloom you can harvest them and use the extra for something else. You can even put them in your compost pile and turn it into fertilizer for your plants or burn some to make pottery. No matter what you end up with you will be happy that you took the time to grow your own flowers at home.
