The Benefits of Living Herb Gardens Like Sun Or Shade
There are many reasons as to why a person would want to do herb gardens like sun or shade. Herb gardens can be designed to provide whatever desired function for the plants. Planting herbs in such a way that they can be enjoyed at any time of the year makes them very desirable. It is also quite easy to do this, depending on your skill. If you are not sure that you would enjoy herb gardening then perhaps you should consider taking up gardening as a hobby so you could do it whenever you choose to.
One of the first things that you will need to consider when you are doing herb gardening like sun or shade is if the area where you are planting the herbs is actually going to get any sunlight. Some herbs do better in areas where there is more sunshine. Basil is one of those herbs. If you are going to be planting basil in an area where it is going to get some sun light you will need to make sure that you plant the basil close to a window. This is not to say that you should plant your herbs right in the middle of the garden, but close to a window so that they will have some indirect lighting.
If you do decide to plant herbs where they will get some indirect sunlight then you will also need to provide them with a place to get water. You can find various devices to use to make this happen. Some folks like to dig a hole and place a pail near the plants or they will put a barrel over the plants. In either case you will need to make sure that the water is always flowing to the herbs.
There are several other things to take into consideration when you are growing herbs. One of those is the soil that you are growing the herbs in. Different herbs will do better in different types of soil. For example, the mint will do best in clay that has not been treated with fertilizer. On the other hand sage will do better in a mixture of peat, perlite, sandy soil and clay.
Another thing to consider is the place that the herbs are going to be located. If you have the ground in the shape that you want it, then you are all set. However, if the ground at your home is not quite what you had in mind, then you may have to move the herbs a bit in order to get them to grow properly. One way that people have found to do this is to plant them on their roof. Although you may have to move them occasionally they will usually grow just fine.
The other way that people try to grow growing herbs in containers is by using pots. This method can work well for most herbs. It is important however that you keep in mind that some herbs do better in certain pot sizes. Also, if you choose to use a pot, be sure to move the herbs around periodically so that they get the best growing conditions possible.
Some of the other things that people sometimes look into when trying to grow herbs in pots is growing plants with short roots. This can be helpful for some types of herbs. Most herbs will do fine with short roots. If you do your research, you should be able to find some pots that are specially made for herbs with short roots. Another thing to consider is that some plants will need to have their roots dug up periodically to allow their roots to get the proper nutrients. Some plants will only need their roots touched up every year while others may need their roots touched up every week during the growing season.
When it comes down to it, most plants are very happy to be planted in pots. They have the ability to grow into a beautiful and productive garden with just a few simple additions. With the proper care, some herb gardens can even turn into a beautiful flower garden.
